Evidence

The most common reason given by prison inmates as to why they confessed is the belief that the evidence against them was strong.

- "Remember earlier when I told you that we sometimes have to expand the interview on particular topics?"
- "There is only one of three reasons why you would be having a problem on this test."
- "You lied"
- "You are too embarrassed to talk to me about something"
- "Or during the exam you remembered something new"
Place the mind map with the greatest salience in front of the examinee.
- "Did you lie to me, or did something new come to mind?"
PAUSE and EVALUATE

- "If you explain what it is, I will get you to pass this test."
- "Your background and experience is highly desired here, but we do need you to pass this test."
- "There are areas that are more problematic than others, chances of what you are thinking to be an automatic disqualifier is very low, but we do need you to pass this test."
