Adding/Editing a Question Set Template in LXEdge

Question Last Updated on: 2/6/2025

Introduction

LXEdge includes several predefined Question Sets in the form of templates. The included Default Question Set templates cannot be directly modified. The process of duplicating a template will create a User-Defined template, which can be modified.

To ease the process of migrating to LXEdge from LXSoftware, Question Sets from LXSoftware can be imported individually or in bulk.

Viewing the Default Question Set Templates

To access the default Question Set templates in LXEdge, click on the Templates button in the main menu, select Questions at the top of the screen, then select one of the templates under the Default Templates section.

Customizing Question Set Templates

When creating your first user-defined Question Set template, it's recommended to start with one of the included Default Question Set templates. While you can also duplicate and modify existing user-defined Question Set templates, it's generally best to begin with one of the default templates.

Step 1: Creating a New Question Set Template

To create a new template from a Default Template, click the blue EDIT button on its card. This action generates a new user-defined template based on the included question set template, as the included templates cannot be edited directly. A prompt will appear to name the new template. Note that the EDIT button will allow you to directly manipulate custom templates.

Step 2: Managing the Components of Question Set Templates

Question set templates consist of question sequences and questions.

Question Sequences

Each question sequence can be easily managed at the top of the edit screen. Questions can be reordered by clicking and dragging the question ID within the sequence. New question sequences can be added by clicking the +Add Sequence button at the top right of the question editor and sequences can be deleted by clicking the red trash can icon to the right of the sequence.

Questions

Each question consists of:

  • ID: Identifier (max eight characters)
  • Type
  • Text: The question as asked to the examinee
  • Expected Response
  • Media File: A multimedia file to be viewed by the examinee

Each component can be easily managed:

  • Add a Question: Click the +Add Question button at the bottom of the question list.
  • Delete a Question: Click the red trash can to the right of the question.
  • Hear Synthesized Speech Preview: On the right side of the question text field, click the blue button containing the icon of the person speaking.
  • Select a Media File: Click in the box in the Media File column to browse for a multimedia file to play during this question.
  • Remove All Questions: Click the Clear All button at the bottom of the question list.

Step 3: Saving a User-Defined Question Set Template:

To save changes to the current or as a new question set template, click the floppy disk icons at the top of the screen.

Viewing Question Set Templates

After creating custom Question Set templates, the Questions templates page will list them on the left side, with the user-defined templates at the top and the Default Templates at the bottom. To view the details of or edit a custom template, click the blue EDIT button on the template card after selecting it from the list. To expand the question list to view all the questions without editing the template, click the down arrow at the bottom of the question list.

To create a new folder, first click on the Question Sets folder, then right click and select New Folder. Folders can be nested by performing the same steps as above but first selecting the folder in which you want the new folder to be created.
